Olivia Wilde served custody papers onstage at the CinemaCon event


An unidentified person introduced the actress and Library director Olivia Wilde with a mysterious manila envelope during her presentation on stage at CinemaCon. The director presented a brand new trailer for her next project don’t worry darling when the envelope was delivered, containing legal documents from Jason Sudeikis.

The legal document given to Wilde was custody papers from the award-winning star of Ted Lassos Wilde and Sudeikis have been separated since late 2020 but share two children. The two Hollywood stars were never officially married but got engaged before the eventual split. The situation between the two stars regarding their children is unclear, but the timing of the delivery of the document raised some eyebrows once news of the contents of the envelope surfaced.

The baffling situation unfolded inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in front of numerous industry insiders and the press. The unidentified individual approached the stage during the director’s introduction to don’t worry darling and placed the manila wrap on stage. Wilde wondered if the manila envelope was for her as she picked it up and opened it to see the contents. Rather than being shaken, Wilde continued with the presentation, which received great applause afterwards.

Per Deadline, the intrusion of the unidentified individual has puzzled and confused those responsible for managing the convention. It is unclear how the individual was able to enter the Colosseum, raising security concerns. Mitch Neuhauser, general manager of CinemaCon, pointed out that the convention has never had an onstage incident like this, but measures are surfacing to re-evaluate security procedures to ensure that unauthorized persons cannot walk in.

Many wondered why Sudeikis would have had legal documents delivered to Wilde during his time on stage at the convention, but it appears the award-winning actor was unsure when Wilde would receive the documents. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporteran insider familiar with the situation said: “Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of when or where the envelope would have been delivered, as it would depend only on the process services company involved, and he would never tolerate her being served in such an inappropriate way.”

Despite the disturbing situation, the public applauded Wilde’s presentation after the reveal of the trailer for don’t worry darling. The film will be Wilde’s second feature, starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. Wilde said the film is a love letter to films that have pushed boundaries, like The Truman Show and Creation. It’s unclear when the official trailer will surface for the public, but it’s obvious many are excited about Wilde’s new offering.
