A games studio and fitness center will move into space previously occupied by Macy’s at the Valley Mall near Hagerstown.
PREIT, which operates the mall, said it had signed leases with Tilt Studio and what it called “a large-format fitness center” to occupy a total of 118,000 square feet in what was once one of the mall’s flagship stores.
“The new mix of flagship stores at Valley Mall is another example of PREIT’s success in actively reinventing our portfolio as we enter the new era of retail,” said Joseph F. Coradino, CEO of PREIT. , in a press release issued Thursday. Morning. “Fitness and entertainment offerings enhance and diversify the mall experience, infusing already dominant properties with increased value for shoppers.”
Building permits have already been issued to make way for the two new tenants, according to Washington County records.
Tilt Studio, which will occupy 48,000 square feet, offers food and a variety of attractions, ranging from amusement rides, bowling, black light laser gaming and black light golf to arcade games and a space for parties, groups and private events.
Tilt operates over 40 arcade and studio locations across the country. The mall operation will be one of 10 Tilt Studio locations.
Tilt’s website says studio locations will soon be available in Hagerstown, Newport News, Virginia, and St. Clairsville, Ohio.
The no-name fitness center will open in 70,000 square feet. According to the PREIT press release, the company operates 29 sites.
The statement states that “its clubs are innovative, community-focused, convenient, friendly and affordable, offering extensive amenities. The Valley Mall location will include indoor and outdoor pools – significantly reimagining the center’s traditional platform commercial”.
The new additions will join Belk, which PREIT announced earlier this year as a replacement for flagship store The Bon-Ton.
Belk, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, operates 300 locations in 16 states.
Belk stores offer an assortment of national and fashion brands, private label footwear and accessories for the family, as well as name brand cosmetics, bridal registry and southern styling for the home.
PREIT is a publicly traded real estate investment trust that owns and manages properties. Its holdings are located primarily in the eastern United States, with concentrations in major mid-Atlantic metropolitan areas.
