Gonzaga (31-0) is looking to round off a perfect season by cutting the net Monday night when they face No.1 seed Baylor (27-2) in the NCAA National Championship game in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Gonzaga vs Baylor Preview
The Gonzaga Bulldogs (31-0) and Baylor Bears (27-2) have spent the entire season leading the polls, and now, rightly so, the two will face off on Monday night for the game’s top prize when they will meet. in the National Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Whatever the outcome, the winner of Monday’s game will make history by winning the first-ever men’s national basketball title on their program. The two teams will play their second national championship game – Gonzaga fell to North Carolina in 2017 and Baylor lost to Kentucky in their only appearance in 1948.
Gonzaga will be looking to complete the first perfect season in Division I men’s college basketball since the 1975-1976 Indiana Hoosiers recorded a 32-0 record.
The Bulldogs hardly had a chance to play in an attempt to make history Monday night. Gonzaga was pushed to the brink of the domestic semifinal game by the UCLA No.11 on Saturday, which they scintillently won 93-90 when their sensational freshman Jalen Suggs conceded a three-pointer in extension.
In a tournament that was devoid of many exciting moments, Gonzaga and UCLA wrote one of March Madness’s all-time games, with the two teams battling back and forth on the game’s biggest stage to the tune of. 15 ties and 19 changes of head.
The 11-seeded Bruins valiantly backed Gonzaga throughout the game, shooting 58% from the field and playing what seemed like the perfect game to take down the undefeated Bulldogs. Pushed to the limit for the first time in all of the season, Gonzaga’s All-American stars responded with one huge game after another throughout the home stretch.
Gonzaga’s second-team All-American second-year big man Drew Timme was a force on the inside, scoring a record 25 points, including the top six in extra period. The 6-10 Timme also pulled a critical charge in the last second of settlement which turned out to be a game and a season saver.
The Bulldogs only played a rotation of seven on Saturday, with the starting five all scoring in double digits. In addition to Timme’s takeover performance, junior guard Joel Ayayi scored 22 points, Suggs had 16, including his nominee One Shining Moment for the Ages, senior US forward Corey Kispert had 15 and the junior guard Andrew Nembhard added 11.
Entering the Final Four, Gonzaga had won 27 straight double-digit games – a streak that was cut short on Saturday night when UCLA gave them all they could ask for.
Baylor’s road to Monday night’s title game was quite different from that of the Bulldogs. The Bears barely sweated in Game 1 of Saturday’s Final Four, beating No. 2 Houston, 78-59, in a game that was never in doubt.
Baylor was led by All-American first-team junior goaltender Jared Butler, who scored his 17 points in the first half. The Bears dominated the first 20 minutes of the domestic semifinal, taking a 25-point lead at halftime.
One of the keys to doing a deep run in March is strong, veteran guard play, and Baylor ticks that box, bringing a powerful three-pronged attack to the ground in Butler, senior MaCio Teague and junior Davion Mitchell, who combined for 40 points against Houston. The Bears, who are the nation’s top three-pointers, were 11 three-to-three in Saturday’s rout.
Along with the hot outside shot, the key to the Bears’ comfortable victory was their lockdown defense, which limited Houston to 38 percent of shots on the field.
If Baylor is to bring Gonzaga to the wire on Monday, one of the X factors will be Butler’s defensive prowess and how he ultimately matches Gonzaga’s Suggs and Kispert. It will be a must-see series of clashes featuring the Gonzaga All-Americans against Butler, who won all three National Defensive Player of the Year awards.
Baylor won’t be scared when taking on the undefeated Bulldogs on the big stage. The Bears are a battle proven group, having a 10-2 record this season against AP Top 25 teams, which includes a 6-0 record against AP Top 10 teams.
